Privacy Policy
PortfolioAtlas has no accounts, no logins, and no user database. Most of what you do here stays in your browser. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and who processes it.
Your calculator inputs stay in your browser
The numbers you enter - portfolio value, savings, passive income, retirement length, household size, healthcare costs - are processed entirely in your browser. They are kept in session storage so they follow you between pages, and they are erased when you close the tab. We do not transmit them to our servers, and we have no database that stores them.
Two things to be aware of. If you use a Share button, your inputs are encoded into the link you copy, so anyone you send that link to can see them. And our analytics receive a coarse range (for example "between $500K and $1M"), never the exact amount you typed.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited and which features are used (for example, whether the comparison tool or a filter was used). Google sets cookies for this and processes the data under Google's privacy policy. We use this information to improve the site and to measure whether people find it useful.
You can block analytics with standard browser tools (content blockers, or Google's own opt-out add-on) and the site works exactly the same.
The feedback form
The feedback form asks for a message, and optionally your name and email. Your email is used for one thing: replying to you. It is relayed directly to our inbox (via Resend, an email delivery service) and is not stored in any site database, shared with anyone, or added to any mailing list. If you leave the email field blank, the feedback is anonymous.
The newsletter
Our newsletter runs on Substack. When you subscribe, your email goes to Substack, not to this website, and is handled under Substack's privacy policy. Unsubscribing is available in every email Substack sends. We never add anyone to the newsletter ourselves - the only way onto the list is subscribing through Substack.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages and protect against abuse, as virtually every website host does.
Who your data touches
- Google - analytics, as described above.
- Cloudflare - hosting and content delivery.
- Resend - relays feedback form submissions to our inbox.
- Substack - runs the newsletter, entirely on their systems.
We do not sell personal data, run third-party ad trackers, or share your information with anyone beyond the services listed above.
Your choices
If you have emailed us feedback and want that email deleted, or want to know what we hold about you (for feedback, it is just the email thread itself), send us a note through the feedback form (include your email so we can reply) and we will sort it out. For newsletter data, use the unsubscribe link in any issue or contact Substack.
Changes
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page. Material changes will be noted on the blog.
