The Biggest PortfolioAtlas Update Yet: Fresher Data, More Cities, and Improved Tooling

TL;DR: Every data point in the system just got a full Q3 2026 refresh, we’ve added new cities (with more coming continuously), and you can now see costs for one adult or two. HUGE thank you to this community. All of this is driven from your feedback.

Why now? A retirement-destination tool is only as good as its data is current, and we pride ourselves on being the most up-to-date resource for planning your FIRE life. So we went big.

A Full Q3 2026 Refresh of Every City

Every cost figure across all 121 cities (housing, groceries, healthcare, transport, all of it) at every lifestyle tier has been re-researched from current sources and independently verified, line item by line item. Every city page now shows its data-verified date, so you always know how fresh the numbers you’re looking at are. Yesterday we were Q1 2026. Today, all 121 cities are Q3 2026.

Better Tooling

Sharper tools around the numbers:

  • FIRE alone is not as fun. The most common request we’ve heard: “is this for one person or two?” Now you can choose! Costs are built on a clearly defined single-adult basis, and a new household setting scales every category the way costs actually scale - housing is largely shared, food and healthcare grow per person. Put the generic multiplier away: we broke the scaling down by rent, groceries, utilities, and more.

  • Filter by region and country - want to see only Europe, or compare across Southeast Asia? Now you can. Redesigned dropdowns need one tap to unlock regions and countries.

  • Enter your own healthcare cost - VA coverage, TRICARE, or an ACA premium that doesn’t match our estimate? Plug in your real number and every city re-prices around it.

  • Verdicts backed by history - We wrote an even stronger FIRE confidence model, backing every “can I retire here” question with 150+ years of real market data, with a confidence level you control. This update exists because everyone in this community kept telling us exactly what would make the tool more useful. We read every piece of feedback you send and every comment you leave. Hopefully this update shows our “Share Feedback” button isn’t decorative.
